NADIM NORKHODJAEV (born in 1947 in Tashkent), graduated from the Tashkent State conservatory, having specialized on composition (1972), assistant professor.
N.Norkhodjaev appeared in the scene of Uzbek music culture in the 1970s. His first works were related with assimilation of large forms. Among them a symphony, synfonietta, the concerto for piano and cantata deserve an attention, being the compositions witnessed the developed style of their author. But the most appreciable success of N.Norkhodjaev is related with the genre of the variety song. This sphere of creative work comprises the largest part of his works. It is interesting that the first example of children's variety song was also composed by N.Norkhodjaev. A lot of songs have been written by the composer for children and such songs as "Good boy", "Hello, Song Holiday", "My question to the Peach" are particularly popular. The composer has also dedicated music-stage compositions to children. Particularly, his musical tales "The child says: “Mum”, "Chicks" are successfully performed in Tashkent and Fergana theatres.
Variety songs of N.Norkhodjaev to the adult audience are also very popular. Many of them formed the golden fund of the Uzbek radio, being entered on repertoire of famous singers of Uzbekistan. The songs of the composer are in-dispen-sable participants of many competitions, where they were often awarded prize-places. For example, such songs as "Ancient Turon", "We are descendants of Alpomish", "I'm a warrior" became laureates of the military-patriotic song competition.
The creative work of N.Norkhodjaev won the recognition in Uzbekistan, as well as abroad (in Ethiopia, Spain, France, Germany and Egypt).
Side by side with the composer's activity, N.Norkhodjaev does an active social work. He is the Department chairman of the Union of composers of Uzbekistan, a member of the Art Council of the Uzbek television and Radio Company, a member of jury at many republic song competitions. He is also an assistant professor at the State Conservatory of Uzekistan.
MIRKHALIL MAKHMUDOV (born in Tashkent in 1947) entered the faculty of Composition at the Tashkent State Conservatory. He studied composition under supervision of R.Vildanov, and graduated from the conservatory (class of F.Yanov-Yanovsky) in 1971.
The bent of the young composer to the instrumental music was determined in his student days, and he composed a number of works in this genre. M.Makhmudov composed his symphony "Navo" ("Melody") as a diploma work, and demonstrated the ways of using infinite potentials, which can serve as orientations for composer's work in the sphere of makom, in particular for the development of the national symphony. His three symphonies, symphonic poems, concerto for chamber orchestra, suite, poem, “Mukhammas and ufor” series, concerto for violin and orchestra, "The sounds of Tashkent" cantatas witness his fruitful and many-sided creative part.
The works of M.Makhmudov in the sphere of musical theatre, such as “Broken jar”, "The son of worker", "Match-maker brothers" dramas and comedies, are considered as the most advanced samples of contemporary creative work.
The music to such films as "Suyunchi", “The riot of daughters-in-law", "Abdullajon", which possess a place in the "golden fund" of Uzbek films, is also composed by M.Makhmudov.
The works of M.Makhmudov are highly appreciated not only in Uzbekistan, but also in Central Asian republics and a number of foreign countries.
M.Makhmudov is also an exigent teacher. Having been working at the faculty of Composition at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan for many years, he has educated a number of students.
AVAZ MANSUROV (born in Kokand in 1957) studied at the faculty of composition (class of Prof. B.Zeidman), then continued his education as a post-graduate student (class of F.Yanov-Yanovsky) at the Tashkent State Conservatory. He is a member of the Union of Composers of Uzbekistan, and the Chairman of the Youth Creative Association. The products of A.Mansurov's creative work in 1986, such as two operas, two symphonies, musical dramas and comedies, symphonic poem, five overtures, cantata, concerto for piano and orchestra, chamber instrumental compositions, variety songs, have their own style. The composer greatly contributed to the development of the children's music genres, which is witnessed by more than 100 songs, about 10 "musical tales", music to a number of performances for Young Spectator's and Doll Theatres, and a symphony with the participation of children's chorus, all composed by him.
A.Mansurov fulfills his creative work side by side with the pedagogic one at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan for many years. He is also the Secretary of the Union of Composers of Uzbekistan.
A.Mansurov was a laureate of Uzbekistan's Youth Prize in 1986, and was awarded the Diploma of Uzbekistan, as well as diplomas and rewards of the Ministry of People's Education and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education.
BAHRULLO LUTFULLAEV (born in Jizzakh region in 1948), graduated from the Tashkent State conservatory, having specialized on chorus conducting and composition; an Honoured artist of Uzbekistan, assistant professor State Institute of art.
The composer writes in various genres. We can mention five symphonies, four musical dramas, about 50 cantatas, chorus suites and poems, a number of chamber instrumental compositions, more than 400 songs and romances among them. Having studied the Uzbek traditional heritage, B.Lutfullaev makes good use of this treasure in his work. His chorus series of nine parts, based on “Dugoh” makorn, is a good example for the above said. B.Lutfullaev also introduced chorus parts into instrumental genres. For instance, his 4th symphony is intended only for chorus.
The searches of the composer are also elated with assimilation of modem technique of music writing and polyphonic forms (the 5th part of his “Uzbekistan” cantata is fugue). He managed to introduce a number of novelties into chorus compositions.
The music of B.Lutfullaev is notable for of forms, links with Uzbek national melodies, the correspondence of the forms.
MUTAL (MUTAVAKKIL) BURKHANOV (1916 - 2002) is the author of the National Anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan, one of the founders of Uzbek professional music, People's Artist of Uzbekistan, the Laureate of State Hamza Prize of Uzbekistan and State Berdakh Prize of Karakalpakstan.
In 1928-1932 M.Burkhanov studied at the Samarkand Music and Choreography Institute. In 1934 he studied at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.Tchaikovsky in Worker's Faculty. Then (in 1935) he studied in Uzbek opera studio attached to the Moscow Conservatory. After that in 1939 he entered the Moscow State Conservatory and took class in composition.
M.Burkhanov devoted himself to the creative work for more than 50 years and composed many compositions in different genres. His symphonies, vocal-symphonic compositions, "Alisher Navoi" opera, cantatas, romances, film-music, and particularly songs entered the golden fund of the national musical art. The melodic language of M.Burkhanov's music is vivid, original and poetics. The development of many-part choral art in Uzbekistan is associated with the name of M.Burkhanov. His 80th anniversary the composer met with new vocal compositions "Shiru-Shakkar" on the verses by Abdurakhman Djami and "Abadiy Khotira" ("Eternal Memory") dedicated to subjected to repression Fayzulla Hojaev, Abdulla Kodiri, Abdurauf Fitrat. Abdulhamid Chulpon, Usmon Nosir, brother Misbekh and uncles Mashkhariddin, Mukammil, Muamrnir Burkhanovs.
From 1955 to 1960 he was the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Composers or Uzbekistan and was continually elected to the authorities of the Union of Composers of Uzbekistan. He made a great contribution to consolidation of friendship between the people of fraternal republics.
