 MIRSADIK TAJIEV (1944-1996) - an out­standing Uzbek composer, experienced preceptor, active public actor greatly contributed to the de­velopment of modern music art in Uzbekistan. Thanks to his innovatory creative works the Uzbek symphonic music came to foreground, and then to the international arena.

He was born in Yunusabad in district Tashkent, and became interested in folk music and instruments while studying in a music hobby. After finishing the music college- named after Khamza, he entered the Tashkent State Conservatory named after M.Ashrafi, where he continued studing composition in the class of famous composer R.Vildanov. His first large compositions, composed during his student days, such as the symphonic poem "To the Memory of Poet", 1st and 2nd symphonies, won the recogni­tion to the talented boy.

After a successful graduation from the Tashkent State Conservatory M.Tajiev works as a teacher at the musical college, fulfilled a creative and guiding activity in the Uzbek State Philarmony, in the Union of composers of the Repub­lic, and works as a teacher in Composition De­partment of the Tashkent State Conservatory until his untimely decease.

In spite of the wide range of his crea­tive interests and use of rather various genres, his attention was directed, mainly, to a symphony. Such distinctive tendencies of Tajiev's sympho­nies as firm leaning on national traditions, particularly an active use of makom means and form-building in organic combination with the composer's own genre principles, have already been clearly defined in young author's 3rd sym­phony. Just this approach brought many of the composer's compositions to the achievement of truly classic altitudes of artistic and professional perfection.

M.Tajiev created large symphonic com­positions, reflecting the most significant events and phenomena of life, one after another. It was not eventually- that the young composer was al­ready recognized as the most prominent modern symphonist far beyond the borders of the Republic in the second half of the 1970s. In 30 years period he created a record number of symphonies Uzbek music. They made up an original music chronicle, imprinting the most significant dates and events of the historical past and the present. The composer managed to reach not only the desired organic synthesis, the unity of the national material and new means of symphonic composition, but also the truly, symphonic thinking. This can be noticed in opuses for the phonic orchestra, as well as in the 7th, 8 th 12th and 16 th symphonies for chamber orchestra.

The symphonic trilogy "The Milky Way" was turning point, cycle of symphonies on the theme of eternal and veritable values, making the best minds of human race anxious, and the last finished, 19th, "Heroic", symphony of the author is dedicated to great changes, taking place in our Motherland after gaining the state inde­pendence.

Such beautiful compositions of the author as musical comedy "Granddads & Grand­mas", "Kumush" opera, music to colour-panorama "The Heart of ancient Samarkand", instrumental concertos, pieces won him the de­served fame a long time ago.

The compositions of M.Tajiev were per­formed in all the Central Asian republics, in Moscow, St.Peterburg, Novosibirsk, Kiev, Minsk, Riga, in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Austria, Germany, Cuba and other countries on prestige international festivals and concerts.
